Dear Subscriber First Name, The NSMTA Triple Crown of Florida A couple of years ago the tournament director of Longboat Key, Tom Scovil, was having a creative moment (probably after watching a horse race) and came up with the idea of a senior tennis Triple Crown using the LBK, Naples, and St. Petersburg Super Cat II tournaments. The first element was to share data so that each tournament could benefit from the other. And starting now for the first time, the tournaments, with support from the NSMTA, have established a pool of $1500 to use for awards and prizes of Triple Crown Winners. The exact prize details have yet to be worked out, but in general there will be two types of winners: Those who have the best records in their divisions (two divisions are possible because of aging up) and those who win by drawing. All winners must play all three events. (So, sorry if you didn’t play LBK, but if you did, then it might be worth giving Naples a shot.) With each division having a winner, there will be a total of 21 division winners. Then if we figure $50 toward each award, that leaves 10 lucky out-of-the-hat winners. Long term we hope to add additional sponsors to boost the pool and add a special prize for an actual Triple Crown Winner. The NSMTA believes the Triple Crown of Florida is a worthwhile effort that will help participation in the tournaments and reward players for both simply playing and also by having success. On a separate note for those of you who played in LBK, we encourage you to go to the Tournament Reviews page of the NSMTA website and review the tournament. Your comments both good and critical are important input for the tournaments. Lastly don’t forget to enter the NSMTA Doubles Championships just around the corner – entry deadline is December 29th.
