President’s Letter May 2021
 

Dear Subscriber Name,

Mayday! Mayday! This could be a call of distress, reflecting our collective past year. Or, it could be a cry of jubilation that we are at last rounding the bend, and a return to normalcy is on the horizon. That’s what I’m opting for! We’ve certainly been tested by the world’s complex mix of light and shadow!

As the tournament season begins to ramp up there is also a call for “PATIENCE” from the Tournament Directors and the Players in dealing with the USTA’s new Serve Tennis web-based platform. So far, it’s been a very disappointing time for everyone after the multitude of promises from the USTA. Kudos to the Tournament Directors who are having to manually input tournament functions and players having to navigate multiple websites for basic tournament information. From our understanding, a decision will be made soon to either correct the problems or return to the old TDM system. Again, patience is the name of the game.

As part of our team series, the NSMTA has already had several successful team events this spring on the east coast and will begin to replicate this success in other parts of the country. These are non-sanctioned doubles events with an emphasis on team competition, fun, and camaraderie. The teams have been composed of nationally ranked tournament players and league players competing together.

Also, the tournament season is being resuscitated and players beginning to travel to different cities for events, NSMTA members can go to our website and click on “Places to Stay” under the Tournaments tab. We now have a partnership with Stay 22, which can aid in your search for hotels and save you on your expenses. While you are on the website, please take advantage of viewing our up-to-date tournament listings, pro shop items and recent articles for tournament results and nutrition.

We appreciate your support, and the Board of Directors are striving to improve the quality and the experience of men’s tennis across the country.

Experimenting During the Pandemic and Discovering How to Fuel
The pandemic changed the tennis world for better and for worse. But some players, like super-senior Keith Richardson, used the time off the courts to ensure they’d bounce back better than ever and put better fuel in the body. In this personal story of late-career evolution, he reveals how pre-match, on-court, and post-match recovery fueling have energized him and re-ignited his game.

NSMTA Invitational Team Series Events
The concept of the NSMTA ITS is to create opportunities for competitive players to get together and play at high-level doubles tournaments at the best facilities. This is done without sanctioning or organizational membership in a format that best fits the group and location. The events have been highly successful and enjoyed by the players, and the NSMTA hopes that these events will continue to thrive and gross across the US.
