Welcome New NSMTA Board Member, Geoff Cykman!

Geoff Cykman joins the NSMTA Board with impressive credentials—both on and off the court.

A lifelong resident of San Francisco, Geoff has racked up eight gold balls in senior tennis and, in 2013, ranked No. 1 in the U.S. in both 60 singles and doubles (with Phillip Landauer). He’s also represented the U.S. on three senior cup teams: the 2004 Fred Perry Cup in 50 singles at Perth, Australia; the 2013 Von Cramm Cup in 60 singles at Antalya, Turkey; and the 2019 Britannia Cup in 65 singles at Umag, Croatia.

Geoff’s aggressive, all-court game is fueled by two important attributes: fitness and a zest for playing. “I try to be as fit as possible, which can often, especially in senior tennis, compensate for one’s shortcomings in the talent department,” Geoff says. “Today in the 65s, I can compete with players who 25-30 years ago would easily have beaten me. I also believe in focusing as much as possible on making every match as much fun as possible.”

Besides these assets, Geoff brings the experience and expertise he gained from a highly successful business career. He owned and operated an export trading company for 26 years, selling well-known, American-made grocery goods mostly in Asia and the Middle East. “In business, obviously, one has to know their business inside and out, and have a product or service to offer that others need and are willing to pay for,” Geoff says. “Using that knowledge, what made me the most successful was simply being honest and always doing what you say you’re going to do. We were taught in school from a very early age that ‘honesty is the best policy.’ They should have added it can be profitable as well.”

With his tennis knowledge, stellar character, and business acumen, Geoff will make our already topnotch Board even stronger.
