For instance, we’ll now be able to alert individual members of new material in areas where they have shown interest. As we indicated earlier, some pages will now be available only to members. If you’re currently not a member and would like to continue accessing all of the content, please join us! We have recently reached an agreement with MIZUNO to provide a 30% discount to members ordering tennis shoes. We’re also pleased to announce that the NEW BALANCE Team Store is now available to members to shop discounted clothing and shoes. Instructions on how to order from either store are available on the website. NSMTA has partnered with several senior events that have received great reviews. Board Member, Larry Turville, is the liaison for what we’re calling the NSMTA Invitational Team Series. It encourages the creation of new regional events, usually doubles and unsanctioned, and the continuance of several events that have been successful in past years. For example, Noble Hendrix (1hendrix@bellsouth.net) ran his popular Mountain Team Invitational under that umbrella this past summer. Upcoming on the calendar are Bill Gatlin’s (gatlinbill@yahoo.com) event in Daytona in November and Joe Rasgado’s (joe.rasgado@gmail.com) event in January in Fort Lauderdale. In the spring of 2020 the week after the Atlanta Senior Invitational, Rich Bruer (rbruer@tampabay.rr.com) will run the highly successful Jerry Kirk Memorial on Hilton Head Island. We hope to grow these types of competitions so if you’re interested in inaugurating such an event, contact Larry and he can provide guidance (lturville@msn.com). One of the other features on the website is the Tournament Reviews section. We’d love to get your feedback on the NSMTA-sponsored events that you play. That helps other players decide which events to play in the future and helps Tournament Directors get an idea of what the players like and what might be improved going forward. We’d like you to know is that the NSMTA is a qualified charitable 501(c)(3) organization and as such, if you are 70 ½ or older and act before December 31, you and the NSMTA can benefit. Transferring funds from your IRA directly to a qualified charitable organization like the NSMTA allows you to avoid taxes. By transferring any amount up to $100,000 this year, your gift will count against your required minimum distribution (RMD), reducing your income and taxes. You can contact your IRA administrator for instructions. As our motto says, “Let’s do some great things for senior men’s tennis together!” Thanks so much for the support so many of you have given us!
