This year’s Ralph Grieco Memorial doubles tournament was held July 17 to 20th at the beautiful Hound Ears Club in Boone, North Carolina. The event grew from four to six teams this year and expanded to play from three to four days. Each team fielded one court each of 65s, 70s and 75s. As is the NSMTA tradition, this event featured great tennis and plenty of it, courts, balls, shirts, beverages, daily food and an evening pizza and beer party for a reasonable fee of $75 a player. Teams came from North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida to play. It was very competitive and came down to the last day’s matches to find a winner. Western North Carolina and the #1 Hound Ears teams tied with 13 matches won each. Rather than declare a winner on some other factor it was decided to declare a tie to be resolved next year by the competing parties. All in all it was a good four days confirming how beneficial these tennis events are for us.
